![]() This is because people of Mizoram have over 200 years of long history of contact with Western missionaries and colonial powers, such as the British, who introduced Roman script to the Mizo people in the 19th century for translating and spreading Christian religious texts.Īs Mizo language uses Roman script with additional diacritic mark to indicate tone and phonetic features, it can be typed easily using the QWERTY keyboard layout. Unlike other Hindi languages, Mizo alphabet is based on the Roman script. The total number of speakers outside India, however, is not known. It is also spoken by some communities living in Bangladesh and Myanmar.
